Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama Unanimously Named NBA Rookie Of The Year
Scott Wachter-USA TODAY Sports

Victor Wembanyama has been named the NBA’s Rookie of the Year, receiving all 99 first-place votes. The San Antonio Spurs superstar had a historic rookie season, averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 3.6 blocks per game.

Wembanyama became the sixth unanimous Rookie of the Year in NBA history, joining an elite group that included Ralph Sampson, David Robinson, Blake Griffin, Damian Lillard, and Karl-Anthony Towns.

The 20-year-old phenom led the league in blocks and became the first rookie to record 250 blocks in a season since Alonzo Mourning and Shaquille O’Neal in 1992-93. He also averaged 0.72 points per minute, the most in a season by any rookie since Michael Jordan.

Wembanyama’s impressive defensive skills earned him a spot as one of three finalists for Defensive Player of the Year, alongside Rudy Gobert and Bam Adebayo. He could become the first rookie to make the All-Defensive First Team.

Despite the Spurs’ 22-60 record, Wembanyama remains confident in the team’s long-term vision. “I trust my teammates a hundred percent, and I trust the project,” he said. “So, it’s really my confidence…was never shaken at any point.”

Wembanyama’s historic season has set the bar high for his future, and he will be a player to watch in the years to come.
